success is the triumph of the ego. anyone who "becomes" anything is possessed of a self-belief that borders on the pathological. the rest of us straggle on behind, living out our weakness, our vicarious pleasures the lives of others.
oh i'm pretty much tired of other people's egos. i think i kinda decided to not give a damn about the hype surrounding an artist's name and be as blind and uninformed as i was back when there was no internet and we had only our intuition to rely on. to be honest, even if i ever became "successful"and/or "famous", under such conditions, I don't think i'd have the stomach for it. i mean, i really was upset about the nasty things written about Tao Lin and i don't even like him much ( as a writer i do, just not as a persona)
